Café 77
First up on the list of café’s fighting for top spot is café77. To claim this prestigious title, the roll and sausage will be ranked through many key characteristics. The packaging, the type, size and freshness of the roll, the taste of the sausage, the price of the roll and the time it takes to be served. Of course there are many more factors that contribute to a great roll and sausage such as the temperature and greasiness of the sausage, the care that’s been taken in spreading the butter to the edges and the roll to sausage ratio (we simply don’t do rolls that are 70% bread). However, each blog post only needs to be 300 words and come on, we’re not daft. Anyway, back to café 77.
A fairly new addition to Paisley’s eateries is café 77, and
it seems like its presence has been long awaited. For years, Paisley has been
crying out for an establishment like café 77 and the crowds that flock here
every morning and afternoon certainly reflect that. It’s a simple formula – minimalistic
exposed brick interior, dog friendly environment, stylish plates, and fancy
garnishes. All these factors advance its “instagrammable” vibe that has
undoubtedly contributed to its popularity. However, underpinning these complementary
elements of the café 77 experience is just sheer quality. They evidently value
the quality of their raw materials tremendously, and certainly reap the rewards
for it. Ultimately, this quality produce is what earned it a visit on this
esteemed list.
From a quick glance at the menu, I was originally uncertain
that such a fine establishment as café 77 stooped to the level of a mere roll
and sausage. With the menu emanating a sense of Glasgow’s west end, with offerings
such as American style pancakes and egg’s benedict’s, I was worried that café 77
had forgotten the basics. However, this initial worry was quite beautifully
silenced with a Morton’s roll (nothing else must be said on the matter, if you
know, you know). Packaged in a brown paper bag, with grease seeping through,
you just know it’s going to be a cracker. Despite the café being rammed inside,
and customers forming a queue outside, the roll was still served in no longer
than 5 minutes. The importance of this service time cannot be underestimated,
especially when your Holter monitor is seconds away from sounding one
continuous beep from your vodka induced death bed. Furthermore, priced at a reasonable
564,556 Venezuelan Bolivar (otherwise known as £1.80), you’re certainly getting
value for money. In conclusion, café 77 contradict the common belief that the
scabbier the shop, the better the roll – they just seem to get it.
